Re: Low Light Stage Recording

Very frustrating isn't it? "Good quality" color cameras need lots of light. You will find TV studio's or your local TV station has lots of bright lights. I've been using a Canon GL1 and GL2. Sometimes you can get away with manual focus mode but that's difficult with a lot of movement. Sometimes fooling with the shutter and apature settings manually will help or boosting the gain in setup. Sometimes the camera's do not automatically adjust well for low light as with my GL1 so I manually make adjustments to gain and shutter speed but you have to be careful with that also as you could change other aspects of the picture or introduce grain in the picture with too much gain. Recently I purchased some lights of my own to help, I would like more. I wish I had a spot light! Alternately my Sony TRV 510 1 CCD camcorder does quite well in low light. It's a $500 camera. It even has night mode where it will film in total darkness (with all green tint). However, all low light pictures have lots of snow/grain and isn't useable for any professional projects, it's fine for a home video. However, I did use the infared once to film in total darkness a small video segment which I intented to have that effect... A quality camera like yours and my GL1 and GL2 do not do as well in low light but produce less snow/grain. Anyway keep fooling with settings, you may find one that will do better but none will do well, see if you can increase any of the light on stage also... ... Gary : Does anyone have a good setting for a low light (blue, red, purple) stage settings for the XL1? : It seems like my focus keeps fluxuating.. Almost like there is not enough light to focus on an object. But when the lights come up Auto Focus bounces around. Although after I'm in focus I switch it over to manual focus. The "spotlight" mode really does no help so I've been screwing around with it in the manual mode. The white balance ect. is set in auto. Is there a way to get "true" colors as well?? Looking thru my viewfinder it seems as if the color is not correct either.. This camera only has 20hrs on at most. : Any help would be appreciated. : thanx, : glen
