DB,
Follow this link:
http://www.zgc.com/html/p_s_technik.html
It shows a larger Photo of the $7000 thing plus a 139MB download (I don't think so) of a QT movie filmed with the "thing".
From what I see, $7000 gives you;
a really impressive looking lens/matte box,
something that makes the XL1 look much bigger than it is,
a way of looking really important on the set,and most importantly,
a means to charge more for your services.
I jest of course.
Anyone want to download the movie? Please let this forum know the results. Thanks.
Andrew.

Sorry I didn't explain the whole use of the P+S device. I figured the picture would have everyone researching it but I guess I'll spell it out for ya. This adapter lets you mount any PL-mounted 35mm lens onto a dv camcorder. The adapter supports Canon/Panavision/Nikon lenses. The adapter includes a ground-glass plate to simulate film grain. Future plans include offering several different plates to emulate different film stocks and making the plates jiggle to make the grain appear to move frame to frame. This is an amazing step for film makers out there who want to progress from just shooting video.
Just Amazed

This is off topic, but that d/l took me 10min to download, it would be nice to have a bigger d/l, i.e 700-800mb to see a bigger picture. just a thought, given the average hd is 15gb, and the cable modem users out there...not to mention faster connections

i just never got why mount a 35mm lens ? unless you like extreme telephoto ? any lens you mount is now equal to approx 8x its focal length when mounted on dv camera ...
IE: a 15mm lens now becomes a 120mm which is longer then the 20X zoom on the GL ? we need wide angle NOT telephoto !!!
i'll download the file this weekend to see what else it does !

Re: downloaded clip [In reply to] Can't Post

i did download the clip ... it is a show reel ... motor cycles moving fast over dirt hills - through air ... have nothing to compare it to ! you do notice the shallower depth of field ... but most of that seems to be result of long lens ??? BUT still if they used a 35mm say 15mm lens which normally that would be equal to 7.5X its length on the canon =115mm ?? which would be a very narrow field of view and there were shots that were in the ? in 35mm field of view terms wide shots ! in XL terms 4-6mm ?? just wish they would have compared shots to something using canons XL lens ..
at end it states all shots shot with 35mm primes ..
it does look like FILM !!!!!!!

Re: 2nd thoughts on downloaded clip [In reply to] Can't Post

have watched clip several more times ... it is cut very quickly .. NOW i have no idea if shots that appear wide are really wide angle ? the shots of motorcycle flying throuh air are shot against sky so for all i know the camera could be 200 yards away ( and long lens used) ... the other shots that have a backgrounds you can see the compression of background that tells me long lens .. the give away would have been if they shot a interior shot BUT all shots are exterior with lots of space !!! no confined areas ...
BUT again does look like FILM !!!

The whole point of this elaborate device is maintain the depth of field of 35mm. There is no multiplying by anything. If you shoot with a 15mm prime on a 35mm camera it will be the SAME FOCAL LENGTH on the XL-1, including the same depth of field. That's what you'll be paying $7000 for.
I can't justify owning it, but I can't wait for a situation where I can rent one.

Wait a minute - what about the cost of the lens - Cooke / Angeniux lens are between 24 - 40 thousand a piece - add that to the 7 grand - and i think we'll keep this as a rental item for sure - hee hee.
