PC, XL1s, Firewire card, Premiere 5 - enough? Can't Post

I have just got a Dell 1.8Ghz P4 / 40Gb HD / 256Mb RDRAM & 64Mb Geforce3 card. It also came with a cheap Firewire interface card. I have version 5 of Premiere and I am thinking of getting a Canon XL1s camera.
Will this setup work for capturing DV footage, editing in Premiere, and exporting DV back to the camera or do I need something else? If so what exactly do I need?
I don't know if this version of Premiere can import DV or if I need to buy one of the myriad expensive (realtime) DV cards...

Hardware wise you seem okay. As far as firewire goes always use the board recommended by software vendor.
One good firewire board is the one offered by Canopus.
One other thing to check is whether XP will cause you problems. Personally, I would rip out XP by its toenails no matter how good it works! Most people do like Windows 2000 and it does not have a copy protection system that lock up your computer system.

Wow Windows ME? FYI that operating system is a toy..I always recommend that operating system be removed immediatly and replaced with Windows NT 2000 Professional. It is much more stable and suitable for your needs. As far as Capture boards are concerned. Adobe is recommending either the Targa 3000 or one of the Pinnacle capture bards. Dell of course will not support either one but there are no compatibility issues with either one other than the fact that the Targa 3000 will not fit in some smaller desktop models and generates excess heat. got fan?
