Panasonic mini DV tapes Can't Post

Any GL-1 users ever compare Panasonic "consumer" mini DV tapes with Panasonic "professional" mini DV tapes? Are there any noticable differences in audio or image?
Thanks

Should not be its DV Re: Panasonic mini DV tapes Can't Post

I haven't noticed quality differences between Sony and Panasonic. Its an all digital format so there will be no differences.
The differences are the specs to which the tapes are manufactured. ME (metal evaporate) are considered to be better tapes. The Panasonic XB (master series) are suppose to be higher quality ME tapes.
I should not have put this in paragraph 3, but the most important thing is not to swap between different brands of manufacturers. If you are using Panasonic, stick with Panasonic (same for Sony, TDK, Maxell, etc). This may not be as important as it once was with miniDV tapes, but I don't like to experiment with this on a shoot.

Because it is a digital signal, as long as the tape read errors do not exceed the error correction capability of the player you should see no difference in the image or sound. If the Panasonic S-AME technology (pro) tape performs similar to Sony's DVCAM, relative to the standard MiniDV tape, you should encounter about half as many drop outs, and perhaps as many uncorrected errors. Whether or not that is worth the 40% higher price is a question only you can answer.
