Power source for XL1 Can't Post

I just purchased an after market cig lighter adapter with a hot shoe for an XL1. Before trying it, I measured the output voltage and it was +8.33 VDC. The Canon power adapter that plugs into the charger unit measures +7.1 VDC. I can't find a tolerance spec in the manual and just lists the DC voltage as 7.2. Can anyone out there shed some light on whether 8.33 VDC is acceptable and will not damage the camera. TIA....

Re: Power source for XL1 Can't Post

8.33V is definetely too high, the camera might work OK for a while, but the internal voltage regulator would be under additional stress to get rid of extra voltage. To be sure, try to test your adapter under "dummy" load 1 amp (approximately XL-1 consumption), as you might see 8.33 V go down to 7.2V under load. If this is the case, your adapter could be used safely.
