Real Time Editing for GL1 Can't Post

Hello!
I am wondering if DV500 works with GL1 whether the patches for their compatibility are fixed or should i try to look for some other card?
i wanted a real time editing card that would work with GL1.
What editing do you use?
Please help me,
Regards.

For latest status check posts at: webboard.pinnacle.com, the DV500 section. You might want to do a search for GL1. Last I heard the Pinnacle DV500 capture utility does not work reliably with the GL1, but Premiere works OK.
I am using DV.now AV card for capture, but it is not Real Time, and I use a Sony GV-D300 as a player/recorder.
Wonder if RT2000 or Storm are happy wiht the GL1?

I don't know about the GL-1, but I am using the XL-1 (which is VERY similar) with the RT2000 and I am pretty happy with the results. It is lacking some of the frame accuracy that is nice to have with DV, but it is capturing and exporting just fine.

What I found out in a couple of days about GL1 and Editing Cards [In reply to] Can't Post

Hallo compadres.
Thank you for your input, i very much appreciate it.
So...I browsed through the webboard.pinnaclesys.com and this is what i found. GL1 and DV500 are not very compatible. DV500 does not support GL1 therefore users run into problems. It can capture analog via Premiere but the DVTools which make batch capture possible do not work at all. You can capture 'live' footage with GL1 but otherwise there are problems, and there are no indications of having this thing fixed, which is very sad.
Apparently XL1 and GL1 use different timecodes, so XL1 works with DV500 and GL1 - shabby.
I would have liked to get Matrox, but i also heard there are a lot of problems, this time not with the camera but with the installations, and people having to spend a lot of time finding a workaround for this and that. And I'd rather not fumble with different IRQ settings cause i'm not the only one using my 'puter.
So, I called Canopus today concerning "Storm". The technical support said that it is both compatible with GL1 (i love my camera) and my computer (HP 8595 i think) they said they have no problems with hewlet packard. Matrox has a list of compatible motherboards and my computer is not on it. It might be compatible but then again the possibility that I would run into problmes is very big. And I do not have the desire and resources to switch. Also, Canopus's headquarters are in my hometown..San Jose, so if the card doesn't work, i won't have to walk far to sort things out, if you know what i mean (hehe)..'cause Matrox is way over in Canada. The Canopus board does not have many negative comments.
Its terrible that its so expensive $1699, but if it will give me peace of mind and normal environment so i can just do editing, i would literally be in heaven.
over, and out,
Natasha

Hello -
Are you using Premiere 6.0? I understand that it supports Firewire and has a DVtools-style capture program built in. So can't you can skip the DV500 all together -- use the Firewire port on the system board (not the DV500, it's proprietary) and use Premiere 6.0 to capture? I suppose you would lose the real-time transistions, but that seems like a fair trade if you are already committed to the GL-1.
