I understand your frustration, Ken... you're undertaking two pretty tough projects at the same time, getting into video at a serious level on a budget is tough, and developing serious race cars is difficult no matter what the budget. BTW, both are a lot easier if you keep them subjective - then your computer is the best and your car is the fastest. Conversely, objectivity is required to win outside the confines of your mind. I don't know if the eBay ad was talking about that specific ZR or if there is a problem with certain PC configurations. If it's the later, I'm betting it's limited, since I've never heard that comment from any competent video guy, no matter the platform. I do recall there was once a need for a capture offset in older FCP versions with certain Canon models. It never affected us. Also remember that I'll always shoot straight with you, but I'm limited to what I know. I have like 35 years in computers overall, but I've been a Mac guy for the last half of that. My PC knowledge is limited to what I've learned from others who use them and what I read. Likewise with the car stuff - I'm willing to bet that the whole concept of head work has changed since I last lusted for titanium valves in my W-port aluminum heads... This next comment may draw some flames from other readers; but I believe (from racing) that if you only do what the other guys do, you'll never go any faster than they do, so here goes: Our first shot at making a video was my wife's idea. She borrowed a 4 year old Sonny miniDV and shot a reel, then plugged it into an iMac without a clue what to do next but launch iMovie. It captured and she cut it up (quite nicely) and got the bug. Virtually everything since then the same kind of scenario - I think it's because Macs tend to do what they're supposed to do and have pretty good support when they don't. I believe that the foundation for this is in the same folks making the hardware, OS, and software, and the "limited flexibility" (read this as "it's harder to screw it up") of a Mac. It's like buying a well engineered rebuild kit - chances are, the oil pump is correct and the valve spring values are what you need. If you're not heavily invested in your current system, you might want to consider switching to a Mac. The one thing I can tell you for sure is that Apple knows where they're going and how to get there. I always thought Roots-style superchargers ruled until I figured out what Whipple was up to, then it became clear why NHRA wouldn't allow them in Fuel classes - just too powerful. Sometimes, the little guy is right. BTW, where's "local"? ______________________________________________________________ Currently on a loaded 2.5GHz G5 dualie/5GB/1TB internal RAID/dual 19" monitors.
