Recording analog to XL1 Can't Post

I'm wondering if anyone out there has figured out a work-around to the XL1's inability to record an analog signal to a mini-VD cassette. I'm hoping there might be a secret, sort of like the XL1's hidden ability to generate color bars. Anybody?

I don't know about the XL1 but the XL1S will record via analog (s-cable or composite) but it won't loop thru to the firewire
it will loop firewire in to the analog out aswell

The required components are not present in the original XL1.

This was typical of first generation DV camcorders: none of them had analog input because there was the fear that we would all take advantage of the high quality of DV to engage in massive piracy.
