No, the XL series lenses are specifically designed to cover the image of the CCD chip inside the XL cameras. A 35mm lens is designed to cover the area of a 35mm negative, which is much, much bigger. Conversely, the Canon 35mm lenses (and be sure to note specifically which Canon 35mm lenses ) only have a relatively small portion of their light gathering capability actually falling on the XL's CCD chip.
