Shutter Speeds Can't Post

I can't seem to change the shutter speed on my GL1. Tell me if I'm doing something wrong. I'm in manual mode, then I scroll on the exposure wheel and change the one that says s1/500 (or whatever speed). Is there something else I have to do because all that's happening is that the picture is getting darker, the shutter isn't opening and closing slower. Thanks in advance.

Re: Shutter Speeds Can't Post

First off I must say that I don't have a GL (I've got an XL) nore have I ever shot with one, but if I understand you correctly it sounds as if you're trying to change your shutter speed with you EXPOSURE wheel (your aperture or f-stop) which is why the shutter speed remains constant while the picture gets darker! On the XL there's 2 buttons just next to the aperture wheel that control the shutter, I'm not sure if it's the same on the GL!
But having said that, the picture will get darker as the shutter speed increases because there is less light getting into the lens.
If all else fails, RTFIM (read the frigging instruction manual)

If the picture is gettng darker, then either the shutter speed, aperture, or gain is changing. Which depends on the setting you have selected and shoulr be evident in the EVF display. Note that the field rate does not change (it is fixed at ~60 fps for NTSC), just the amount of time the electronic 'shutter' is 'open' to capture the image changes. Using a faster shutter will not allow slow motion, it will just reduce motion blurr in the individual fields.

I too am having trouble with the shutter. I've had the XL1 for almost two years and so know a little about how it works. HOWEVER, recently I started having a problem with the shutter. In the TV and Manual mode, the shutter just runs away. When swithed to either of those modes, the shutter races to 15000. Nothing will stop it, nothing will change it. Any ideas?
