are there any fluid head stands for the xl1? or an adapter for an xl1 with a matte box and rods to fit a standard fluid head? are there any web sites where these can be found?

Have you looked at Manfrotto? I use their 510 head and it works well.
Formatt make matte boxes that are very light and attach to the front of the lens.
