I went to visit the site that you suggested... It's much interesting and useful. The more I read about 16:9 the more I see that I have to look for another kind of camera, may be the Sony dsr pd-150, even I have to say that the Cannon xl1 is a very interesting and versatile camera. Thank you again for your support... that is very useful to me. See you again, Mic : you might also contact ( they are very friendly to us mini dv'ers) http://www.digitalfilmgroup.net/index.htm as they do NTSC to 35mm transfers (interlace) that rival PAL to 35mm transfers ... : most other houses recommend PAL : : Thanks a lot DB. I wrote to a USA's transfer house and they gave me some hints about a different camera. I will consider all their hints that are identical to yours :) I hope I can seel my XL1 that is really new and buy a new different camera that will allow the true 16:9. Thank you very much. : : Mic : : : well the best would be to shoot with a true 16X9 camera ... next would be using a anamorphic lens with either sony 2000/150 , GL1, sony 100/900, sony 1000 .. then : : : next would be a Xl1 without anamorphic lens ... there is some debate on shooting normal vs. 16X9 mode (with the 16X9 getting the better image over normal and clipping off top/bottom of image) but remember shooting 4X3 you'll have good tv frame ..if 16X9 you have cut off top and bottom then for TV you'll have to cut a little off each side WHICH doesn't leave much of the original 720X480 frame !!!! : : : with a good 35mm transfer costing $50-70,000 ..you could probably find a good rental rate on a true 16X9 camera for 1200-1500 week ... : : : most transfer houses will have a camera recommendation list starting with HD going down to dv ...... check with them : : : : : : : Good morning. : : : : I need to shoot a movie (with my XL1) and then I have to transfer it to 35mm. I have read many articles on the Net about how to set the Canon XL1, but there is one question that is not really clear... 16:9 setting. I know that I can set it in the menu of the camcorder, but it's a digital "wrong way" setting. Anyway is it better to use it (or not), as there is not an anamorphic lens available for the Canon XL1 (grrrrrr!) at moment? : : : : If somebody that has really experimented can give me a hint I will greatly appreciate it. : : : : Thank you very much, : : : : Mic
