: I'm taping a classroom lesson with a Sennheiser wireless lav on the teacher (MA200 adapter in) and the regular XL1 nose mic for ambient sound in the 12bit mode. Any suggestions as far as monitoring both sources, setting levels and in general using the 12bit mode?
You can select which sources to meter/monitor ST1, ST2 or ST1+ST2 with the Audio Monitor button.
Check the XL1 manual for settings. Be sure to set the Audio2 input level to match the wireless system (from the menu).
For voice AGC mode can work well and net to three less things to manage during the shoot (audio levels). If you can try it both ways in a practice sessions and go with what works best for you.
:Can I mix down a channel in post? I'm not using a mixer.
In general, yes. Most decent NLEs allow audio mixing and panning the audio.
4-channel can be tricky the first time you try it. Practive before the shoot to be sure you can manage it.
