UV/skylight filters for XL1 lenses Can't Post

I have recently started using an XL1 with both the standard and wide lenses. Is it possible to fit UV/skylight filters on these lenses to protect the front elements from harsh environmental conditions such as sea spray and sand. If it is will it cause problems with the auto focus. Any help would be great.

Yes and maybe.
Yes, the lens has filter threads (72mm if I recall correctly).
Maybe, thanks to the great depth of field you get with 1/3" CCD and small apertures comon to outdoor daylight shooting, lumps of stuff on the filter will be visible in the image, especially at wide angle settings, and auto focus may even try to focus on it. You can use the internal ND filter to open the aperture more, and perhaps use a higher shutter speed or an external ND filter too. Keep the lens/filter surfaces clean, and use manual focus where possible.
