What's your next cam? Can't Post

I use Canons (XL1S, GL2) and was excited about the XL2 and more so the HX1... but what do you think your next camera will be?
Why?

Cheers!

Hello Andrew,
If I buy new - then I'm holding out the HDV entries to see what Canon does with the GL2 replacement. I figure its got to be priced around the price of the Sony HDV FX cam and hopefully offer HDV as well. My problem right now is trying to find a mate for my lone GL2 in a 2 cam wedding shoot coming up in March. I would rather find a Sony PD170 used but even used they dont come cheap. Another GL2 used would be nice but I have also thought about a used XL1S if it is better in low light than GL2 (Is it ?)

Now: GL2, fully satisfied.
Next: If Canon does something in HDV, I'll follow Canon.

Otherwise: Panasonic AG-HVX200. This camera is still not available in Europe.

Greetings,

Laurent

My GL2 absorbs more light in darkness than my XL1S (which is strange because the larger 72mm lens should be collecting more light...)

But even though you can get more 'visible' image with the GL2 than the XL1S, the XL1S's low-light images are more vibrant. The GL2 seems to turn everything more brown/grey/muddy.

I really like the lense on the XL2 when I tried it because Canon fixed the notoriou backfocus problem on the XL1s.
Of course, if I had a load of cash, I'd probably throw it at an XLH1.

Cheers!

I'm shooting mainly GL-2s. I'm pretty sure They'll last me through SD.

I think it may be a bit early to be deciding on my next cam - Canon is notoriously conservative and usually last out of the block with the "new wave", but they're usually worth the wait. I don't think their second shoe has dropped yet. Sony is well on their way to making their first generation HDV cams obsolete, so I expect NAB may yield several new offerings, maybe even a GL-H1.

I'm not even sure at this point that there is a "standard" HDV spec, so I'll (hand) hold what I've got for a while yet.

I've used the XL-2 and it's sweet, but if I had to make a move tomorrow I'd be tearing my hair out between the XL-H1 and the new JVC HD offering, and thinking about the Panny too.
