While were on the subject of scammers..... Can't Post

Just thought I would share a little with you all.
Earlier this week I found (ON EBAY, no less) a guy that has a few XL1s's. He was asking 2 grand. I thought to myself, maybe just the camera body? Maybe PAL version, maybe stolen? So I started chattin with him (or her, never know these days) He said that they were left over from a large production and they had already been written off, and he was in charge of dumpin them. After a battery of questions, he assured me that the camera was NTSC, factory sealed, with a full USA warranty. I thought WOW, aren't I a lucky duck! So I decided to push this a little farther. I told him that I would take one and we just needed to figure out payment arrangements. A day or two had passed, and I was back on THIS site reading (again) and someone was talking about some Nikki lady that has screwed a bunch of people. I had already heard of her before from this site, however the horse was being beaten again. No bother to me though!
So anyhow, the thought dawned on me to tell "this guy" I want to do an escrow transaction. I told him I would pay for ALL the additional charges and that is was a fairly simple process. He responded back and said that he couldn't do that because of customs, and the way he ships (UPS) from the THE CZECH REPUBLIC
Well, maybe I'm not explaining it exactly as he did, so I'll post a few sentences from a private Email. I usually DO NOT post portions of a private Email on a public forum, however I feel that this guy may attempt to rip people off, and just incase some of us don't know how much $$$ these cameras cost, well...getta clue!
"Nice to hear again from you. I’m afraid that I can't accept escrow, I'm in Czech Republic and here I can accept only wire transfer, and here how I do bussiness:first I arrange the package and I go to UPS, I pay the taxes, and let it there, and I send the tracking # to the buyer, after her receive it and see that is ok, that the tracking # is available I ask for the payment, and this it should be made through Western Union, after the buyer confirm the payment and I check it on their website I call UPS to release the package, and I send you an e-mail back to inform you that the package is on the way, and using the tracking # you can track it all over the road"
So after I sent him a link from EBay’s Escrow company, and enlightened him that wire transfer is a widely used method of payment for larger dollar amounts.......Well, that was the last time I heard from Mr. Czech boy.
I'm sure all those that met Ms. Nikki Brindle will attest, if it sounds too good chances are...well, I think we all know how that one ends.
This is an attempt to let all the users of this forum know that IN MY OPINION there may be someone from over seas trying to sell XL1s's with no intention of delivering.
So I'll point my browser to http://www.bhphotovideo.com
and I'll pay the $3,500 (and take my $500 rebate too:) And guess what? I won't be needing any District Attorney, or insurance claim (knock on wood of coarse) I also sincerely hope that all those that got burned get some form of retribution, or at least get a chance to kick "Chuck's" ass.

James, thanks for sharing what you found on eBay. I quite often check for XL1s's on eBay (even though I no longer have the money to buy) and always spot what is obviously a scam. Very obviously. What is amazing is that there are bids on these cameras and I know someone is going to wire the money and never see it or the camera again. Hey I know 'cause I was once one of those people.
The thing about Nikki Brindle is that she was a long time seller on ebay with a "Powerseller" rating and SquareTrade verified. She did deliver cameras and laptops for incredible prices. But something happened and more than 130 people (that we know) of got shafted.
I learned my lesson the hard way and hope I can save someone else from the same fate. This has been a very eye-opening, fast education on the business of internet fraud.

Paypal has told me they see people with high feedback go bad. So, its NEVER fully safe.
She could have gotten laid off, bankrupt, sick relative in need of a treatment, etc . who knows.
