White adjustments at night on XL 1 Can't Post

I'm having trouble to obtain a pure white at night with tungsten light. The camera seems to go to red and doesn't let me adjust it in the manual mode. If you have any suggestios I would really want to hear about it.

Don't forget about the Canon XL-1 Owner's Club. They may be able to answer that question for you.

A couple thoughts that might help depending on your situration. The ideal solution would be to add more light to the scene, which may not be possible in your case.
The XL1 white balance system has a finite range of adjustment, starting at around 2600 degrees at the red end (don't have the exact figures with me). It works by adjusting the gain on R. B, and G CCD output. If there is not enough B and G light reaching the CCD, as might be the case on a tungsten-lit dim night scene, you may not be able to white balance because there just plain is not enough light present to do so. At that point you might try setting the XL1 in the Indoor position and then make further correction when editing. Of course a test would be in order before you shoot for real.
Alternatively, try do the white balance at a bright point is the scene where there may be sufficeint to balance and then move to the intended camera position retaining the white balance.
It is worth noting that the EVF colors are not especially accurate when the image gets dim.

Other sugestion is adjust the w balance with a piece of red or magent gel (of about 5% to 10% of intensity) in front of the lens, this will force the camera to put more cyan or green, depending of the color of the gel.
