Wireless microphone to use with GL2? Can't Post

Hi, I'm pretty much an amatuer to this but I have a GL2 and want to use a wireless microphone handheld. What would you guys recommend that the price is pretty reasonable?

Look at the AUDIOTEKNIKA line of products. They are great for economy, mid-range and top-end.

My PRO 88 W/R has been flawless.

IMHO, the Sennheiser G2 system is about as good as it gets. If you buy the ENG kit, you'll also get a second transmitter designed to fit to a hand mic for interviews. All this for around $550...

Check it out at B&H photo-video, a knowledgable and trustworthy vendor.
That's where I got mine.

I'm using a Samson 32 which has been great. However, I've bee considering selling my XL1s and just using GL2s (I already have 2).

When I hooked up my wireless mic to the GL2s, I got an annoying hum. Made several adjustments in the menu settings which helped a little but not good enough for professional work.

Wireless system sounds fine on the XL1s?

Thinking it may be the 1/8" to 1/8" adapter from receiver to camera.

Any thoughts?

Unsure

This happens to a lot of Poulsbo Boys... If you were from south Seattle (my old stomping grounds) this just doesn't happen... Wink

I think it's a recognized fact that both the GL-2 and the XL-2 have superior audio as compared with the XL-1, so unless one of the GL-2s has an internal problem, I'd be looking at either the operating frequency or (as you suggest) the patch cord. Patch cords are cheap, try another one.

You have 2 GLs, so it'll be easy to verify whether it's the cord or the cam. We also have a Samson 32, it's not a Sennheiser, but it's a good unit and works fine with our GL-2s.

Thanks for the reply Rat.

I did try it on both GL2s with same problem. Probably the adapeter cord.

I'll try another.

Seattle huh? Where do you live now?

Cool. Lived in Huntington Beach for 6 years.

Visit CA every year to see wife's family and friends.

OK, you Poulsbo, South Side Seattle, Huntington Beach boyz - you KNOW that Silverdale and Hermosa Beach is MUCHO BETTER for everyone CoolCool. (Actually, East Bremerton is where I'm looking to retire .... fishing on the Hood Canal, ain't nuttin' like it in the world)

Regarding Poulsbos troubles with the wireless - hmmm. I have a cheapo AUDIOTEKNIKA PRO88 and that sucker only hums when I'm near by... must be my electrical personality - but probably like most think, I'm just a blown fuse. Check your input ring around the MIC input and make sure there's no grease or oil built up perhaps causing a noise hum due to grounding ... a nice cleaning with some denatured alchohol would help - avoid Tequila Sunrises though - the sugar will clog the works. Positioning the reciever of my AUDIOTEKNICA is the best way to avoid the human induced humming I get, so I had to purchase an extended cord and now hang the receiver from the tripods center hook, far away from any human induced hum. I've tried the more expensive wireless sets on trial and I like them but have not been convinced enough that they're any better than the cheapo PRO 88 thus far. The PRO88 came with the send unit, the receiver (two channel), then audio cord from rcvr to camera, two lavelier mikes and two mike holders.

I was surprised it was also able to handle the bandwidth of an audio board output. We do a lot of auditorium work and utilize the audio boards output into the AUDIOTEKNIKA transmitter - and surprisingly, the spectrum is recieved VERY WELL. This avoids lugging out 100's of feet of audio cable and taping it down across aisles to avoid people tripping on it, etc.

Good Luck with your 2 GL2's Poulsbo - have you had ANY problems with the tape transports yet ? My earlier GL2 did, and CANON repair fixed it on a one week turnaround. Fortunately, I got the extended GOLD warranty so the cost was minimal (shipping).
