XL-1 CCD problem? Can't Post

I was shooting a jazz combo when something weird happened to my XL-1.
Right in the middle of sax solo the camera glitched and suddenly everthing was blue. My heart dropped into my shoes! Frantic, I tried re-white balancing with no success.

Afterwards, I shut the camera down and several minutes later powered up again.
Everthing was fine, like nothing ever happened.

This is not the first time.

I fear the CCDs are dying on my 1998 model XL-1. Can I have this repaired or is this the end of the trail for my XL-1?

Seven years is a actually a long time for a camcorder, but before you retire it's worth taking a shot at repairs.

Internal diagnositics might report the source of some problems if the appropriate diagnostic tool is attached. A Canon-capable service shop should have it.

Sounds like a system crash (e.g., the Windows Blue Screen of Death). Camcorders are controlled by internal microcomputers, something may have caused the microcomputer inside to crash, perhaps am intermitent loose connection.
