XL1- Missing pixels in frames -HELP Can't Post

UnsureHi Everyone,

I just found this site and hope someone can help me. I have been shooting with an XL1 for about 3 1/2 years now. It's a great camera, but there is one persistant problem I simply can't get rid of. It has to do with missing (or garbled) pixels on some frames of video. Sometimes, the frequency is about every couple of seconds you will see a missing pixel within a frame. Sometimes it is only a couple of pixels, barely noticable, othertimes, it looks real bad with enough garbage to really mess up the scene.

I have sent this camera in 2 (or 3) times complaining of this problem. I will get it back, and it seems to work okay for a few months, then the problem is backMad

It is not in the capturing as I can re-capture the same sequence and have the same missing pixels. I don't think it is the tapes, I have tried just about every brand out there and only use a tape once (I archive rough footage).

I just can't seem to figure this out and was wondering if others have dealt with this problem?

Thanks

Chris

Have you mixed Sony brand tapes with other brands? There's some evidence that muixing brands may cause problems because of the different types of lubricants used on tapes. It appears that Sony brand, especially, does not mix well with others.

Get a cleaning, and then stick with one brand. I've alway favored Fuji tape in 15 years of shooting. Back in the days of Hi8 it was considerably better than Sony when it came to dropouts.

Thanks for the input Bob, but no Sony tapes here. Running a cleaning tape never seems to correct the problem (perhaps a little improvement). Recently, I have been sticking with Maxell tapes, but have used Panasonic and JVC - problem existed on those tapes too.

I think the best you can do is to get a professional cleaning and then stick with one brand. Here's a link to several posts elsewhere about not mixing brands: http://www.google.com/...ixing+brands+of+tape
