XL1/GL1/ or Panasonic 24p Can't Post

I'm in the process of making my first documentary and I've rented a canon xl1 enough times to consider investing in a used dv to save money. We've been using a two camera setup. The xl1 is locked on a tripod for a wide shot and then we cover tight with a panasonic (not the good one people've been raving about). However, I'm not really sure about which about which camera to buy. The canon is nice so far, but I've been hearing so much about the panasonic 24p, the xl1, and gl2.

Here's some of the projects aspects that may affect a camera choice:
1: it's mainly interviews
2: it's got a stylized, low light look in certain points, sort of artsy
3: i'd like to mimic a film look at some point
4: subjects need to wear a microphone

If anyone can recommend a camera and prices for used ones, it'd be appreciated.

best,
jerry

I don't know anything aboout the Panasonic, so I won't talk about it. I own a GL1 and an XL1-s, and will talk about them. The GL1 is a nice little camera, but is likely limited limited by the following factors:
1) 1/60 is the slowest shutter speed.
2) tends to render a strong red-orange cast to color in low light situations.
3) has only interlaced (normal mode) and non-interlaced (frame mode) scans, no 24P.
The XL1 preceded the GL1. While far more flexible, it has many of the same issues with low light color rendition as the GL1. It also has the same shutter and scan modes.
The XL1-s (released in 2001) is a far more flexible machine. With shutter speeds gong down to 1/8, its iight sensitivity is as low as 2 lux. Still no 24P. canaon claims a cine-like image using a frame mode scan.
The XL2, on the other hand, is loaded with features to compete with the Panasonic, including a true 16x9 recording mode. Visit www.dvinfo.com for in depth articles on all three Canon cameras.
G5 1.8. Final Cut/QT Pro/iMovie/Still Life. GL1. XL1-s

Good Afternoon Jerry,

My name is Michael J. Giles, I'm a sales rep with Tri-State Video Services Inc. I was just browsing the site and thought I would drop you a quote on a Panasonic AG-DVX100A. This is the camera that has the 24p feature and everyone is raving about. I've actually sold 7 of these cameras over the last 6 months and have yet to receive a negative response. 3 of the 7 sold we're b-stock inventory, I check for them on a need be basis.

I'm able to acquire the item at a b-stock price and can let it go for $2,565.00 or $3,750.00 new.

If you need any detailed information regarding the camera itself use this link http://catalog2.panasonic.com/...surfModel=AG-DVX100A.

If you need any information regarding Tri-State Video Services Inc. visit our site at www.tristatevideo.com. If your interested in detailed information e-mail me at mike_j_giles@yahoo.com and I will attach an Executive Summary and Sales Letter for your review. If your interested in this item or are looking for other equipment feel free to contact me at (724) 898-1630 or e-mail me, there's an underscore before and after the j in the address.
