XL1S Screwed Up Due To Sunpak LANC Remote?

After studying a lot about exposure, and finally realizing how to really apply the use of the zebra stripes, I got my XL1s out today to do some experimentation. Lo and behold, the zebra stripes would not come on, though I was correctly turning them on. I tried everything. Made sure I was not in Easy Recording, etc. Then I called Canon, and after going through the various procedures, the tech guy said, Well, they should be on." Suddenly it dawned on me that a couple weeks ago (I hadn't tried to use the zebras since then), I bought a Sunpak V-Remote, that was supposed to work for the XL1S through its LANC connection, to start/stop recording and zoom in and out. I bought this for 25 bucks or so after returning the $200 ProZoom I'd bought from Studio1productions.com. I was very dissatisfied with the ProZoom. Anyway, once, while I was using the Sunpak remote, my display went blue, and the camera locked up. That happened when I was trying to zoom with the Sunpak, which usually didn't work. I'd resigned myself to keeping the unit, because I figured, for twenty bucks, it's better than reaching around the camera to start/stop the camera. I was just going to avoid using the zoom controller. So now, today is the first time I've tried to use the zebras since this happened, and I'm afraid that the Sunpak messed up my XL1S's computer. Has anyone had this problem? Has anyone encountered the same problem with any controllers from Studio1Productions? How was it fixed? What was the cost? I'm ready to send the camera to Canon, but I'm freaking out! ------------------------ Charles Charpentier industrialfilmworks.com (under construction) Canon XL1S, Britek Lights (cheap!), Work Lights, Bogen 475 Tripod & 503 Head, Ulead MediaStudio Pro 7, DVD Workshop 2, Samson Wireless, Maxell Tapes, Etc., Etc...
