More than likely the "mute/squelch" was set to a high degree. Squelch/mute adjstments, while refining a particular mic's reception characteristics, also limit its range of reception. Too much adjustment will cause drop-outs. The best thing to do is to experiment and find out where the minimal squelch setting is on the receiver (they are all nortoriously vague in the labeling of the adjustment screws), then do a similar experiment on the transmitter's GAIN adjustment (if it indeed has one). The idea is to get both transmitter and receiver adjusted where there is no suppression, then (in my experience) adjust the receiver downwards, because it is logistically easier (the audio mixer and mic receiver are both within reach). Ultimately, you will want to adjust both mic systems to perform efficientlly within an environment of similar dimensions. Change the size of the hall and you will have to re-adjust all mic systems. Go out-doors, and it is a whole new adventure. Take the time to balance all componets in your system, and TAKE NOTES! This will give you a baseline to use when you set up in a new environment. Best wishes for successfull (uneventful) wireless microphoning! G5 1.8. Final Cut/QT Pro/iMovie/Still Life. GL1. XL1-s
