XL1 - Help with Audio! Can't Post

Hello everybody,

I am new in this forum.

I need some help. I am going to be shooting a documentary with 2 cameras. One is a Cannon XL1 and the other one a Sony which does not have an audio input for professional recording.

Some of the shoots will be inside a church and some of them outside, in the desert (I don’t think it will be very wind).

In some of the shots, somebody will be singing (not from a microphone).

Our budget is very tight so I was wondering if I could get away with not hiring an audio engineer.

The question is: If a plug a boom microphone in the XL1 - which would be taking shots of the audience and a lapel wireless microphone in the Sony – which will be filming the singer or speaker – would I get a have a very good sound quality?

Or should I get a get an audio engineer & audio mixer and plug the audio mixer to my XL1, which in turn would film the speaker/singer and let the other camera film the audience and cut away shots?

Thanks guys!

I have the Canon accessory that lets me plus a few different XLR cables into the input. That way when filming I can record the wireless on one chanel and my shotgun on the other. It sounds a little wierd that you don't have an input on the Sony.

Another option is to use an IRiver 795 or other mp3 player as a wireless lapel mic. You won't be able to monitor the audio, but as long as the settings are correct there shouldn't be a proble. I use this as a backup mic on most of my shoots.

Just a few suggestions. Good luck!

That's great, thank you Annie!

Do you know the name of this accessory?

Cheers,
Veri

Is it possible to use a single XLR input from the MA200 audio adapter and also use the onboard shotgun mic?
