I'm using FInalCut - SOmething going on with camera - Here's what happned: when I monitor during capture, audio is bad/nonexistant,barely perceptible although the meter on a vhs deck connected to dv deck register audio. After I capture and put clip in sequence, audio is fine. This is only with recent tapes, older tapes are fine....weird... Boy, I'd sure be looking for a connection problem here... The good news is that if the audio makes it through to the timeline, it's only in the monitoring circuits. Start looking wherever the audio leaves the primary data path.
Also, don't forget that if resources start to dwindle, FCP will always give first priority to the things that get the footage in. That's why you sometimes see a very jerky image on the computer screen during capture - it isn't getting the same amount of service that the datastream is getting.
