XL1 Discontinued? Can't Post

Does anyone know if the XL1 is being discontinued and/or replaced by Canon? I went to my local Wolf Camera and was told that it was being discontinued. Further, are there any other comparable camcorders we should consider?

I don't know about this instance, but sometimes "discontinued" by a store means "we have dropped that product line OR that product/company has dropped us."

Generally well sourced rumors are that a replacement model (XL2?) is likely to be announced later this year, probably in the Summer or Fall. (The LX1 is over 3 years old now.) And it is likely to be an incremental update and improvement based on the curent XL1 design, not a radical change.
If true, that could mean that the XL1 line has or shortly will stop production of the XL1 model when in hand inventory is considered sufficient to meet demand until the XL2 is released.
You may recall that Canon L2 Hi8 model production stopped a year or more before the XL1 started shipping.
Time will tell.

For the short term I doubt this will mean much. When the XL-2 finally becomes available, XL-1 prices will fall, but I doubt dramatically.
The other thing to remember, is that many accessories are suppose to be interchangable. If true, whatever you have will still be useful. I also do not think the used prices on XL-1s will drop much, if at all.

Someone metioned an XL2.
When is this supposed to be coming? I hope to shoot a DV feature this summer. Will it be out before then?

Rumors I've read indicate that the XL2(?) is not likely to be available until Fall or Winter. It will probably take 2-3 months after the official press release to reach market in the USA.
