XL1 Lens Information Can't Post

I'm hoping someone out there might have a Service Manual for the XL1 16x Lens and can help me out. (or someone brave enough to remove the 5 tiny screws from the lenses mounting ring and take a quick peak at the wires)
Due to an unfortunate camera accident, the lens was seperated from the mounting ring (held to the lens with 5 tiny screws). There are 7 color coded wires that connect from the lens to this mounting ring. I need to know what color wire goes to what pin on the mounting ring. There is a group of 5 pins and a group of 2 pins, making 7 total.
Any help would be very much appreciated !

The lens manual does not call out wire colors. It does show that in the lens they are what appears to be a ribbon cable soldered to a contact assembly in the mount and with a connector on the other end that plugs into the circuit board in the lens. Pin 1 on the lens is ground (lower right as you look into the back of the lens with the contract strip down), pin 6 is power from the camera body (and has a fused in the lens). [However, on the circuit board pin numbering is reversed with pin 7 ot CR101 being ground.]
If it helps, you might be able to order the contact assembly from Canon, part number DY1-7987-000 000.
Just a thought: The force required to do the damage you describe may have also caused other internal damage beyond the scope of end-user repair.

Re: XL1 Lens Information [In reply to] Can't Post

Well, I was really hoping to put the wires back so I could verify the condition of the lens. This is what things look like when you remove the 5 mini screws from the mounting ring and take a look under it (the big difference being your camera will have the wires attached to the ring)...

For anyone interested, these are the little mini screws that attach your 2 pound lens to your camera body...

The metal mounting ring is attached to the lens assembly by screwing these 5 mini screws into soft plastic. After realizing how everything is so fragile and poorly attached together, I wouldn't even recommend carrying the camera by the handle on the body. You weight of the lens could easily snap the screws out of the plastic by moving or swinging the camera too much.
Carry this camera like you would carry a baby !!!

: Well, I was really hoping to put the wires back so
Look at the wires closely for clues as to their sequence. There migh be hints of plastic fromthe adjacent wire if it was multicolor ribbon cable. Also, the length may give a clue, longer wires to contact points/terminals further away. Is the rear glass attached to the mount or the lens body?

Or is it really a magnesium alloy as is the case with the the XL1 body? Did the screws strip the the threads in the holes they screw into?

Good advice for just about any piece of video gear

Re: [X-Joe] XL1 Lens Information [In reply to] Can't Post

For anyone else out there that went through the same experience as I did with their lens and could not get any help from a Canon service center or find anyone to simply pop the ring off their camera and take a peek at the color coding of the wires...

Here is the wiring off a brand new XL1s which worked fine for me and my 6 year old XL1.

After a quick 5 minute solder job and some gluing, everything works like new !!
