XL1 shutter speed silly question probably Can't Post

I shoot sports with my XL1 set to Frame mode and Manual. I adjust the shutter speed constantly.

I've just noticed that when digitized, some of my footage has a cool strobe effect when the action is extreme, or is it because of slower shutter speed?

I'm always in Frame mode but sometimes I don't get that effect. Is it because at higher shutter speeds the action is smoothed out?

I don't get to shoot for a few days so I thought I'd ask the question before I get to experiment.

Slow shutter speeds (under 1/60) can induce a sort of strobed effect to motion. And it will be more noticeable with faster moten, especially crossing motion. Similarly frame mode will have a sort of strobed effect, that is more pronounced with crossing motion and rapid pans. Some folks like the effect, others do not. The effect is caused by the delay between refreshes of the image. With normal mode the image is refreshed every 1/60th and that smooths out motion. In frame mode the refresh is every 1/30 and the steps in motion become more pronounced. With slow shutter the refresh is based on the shutter speed. Also, with slow shutters there is more motion blur of moving objects.
