XL1 vs. XL1s Can't Post

I've heard that certain models had serious problems and was told the XL1 is the best bang for the buck. Anyone have advice for which would be the best investment for 1-2hr movies?
I presume all the DV stuff is fairly easy to burn to a DVD. Does anyone have suggestions on economical ways to approach editing and end-production on DVD? Maybe the XL1 comes with editing software? (I couldn't find a spec on Canon's site)

XL1 was discontinued 2+ years ago, used units are available. Speculation is that a successor to the XL1s may be announced in 2004 (but nothing firm yet). Either can do well, the XL1s is a bit better, especially in poor light, and offers more user control over the image capture process.

The provess is not difficult - but takes a bit of talent to do a a good shoot and edit. The XL1 does not come with editing software, but some retailers might put together a bundle for you, or routinely offer bundles.
There are many NLE options with various capabilities and price points. What is your budget? What is your computer and OS? How serious are you about editing? These will factor into any recommendations as to editing software.
If just gettnig started, a trip to a library to read back issues of Videomaker might be a good starting point on your research.

Assuming you are using a PC, Pinnacle's Studio 8 is a great piece of software to edit movies with. It's fairly inexpencive, around $80 and is user friendly. I use it often for making MPEG2 videos ready for the DVD burner. I also have all of the Adobe software which is expencive and can be overwhelming to the beginner. I use the Sony DRU 500A DVD burner which came bundled with Sonic's MyDVD 4.0 software. Again, a simple product and easy to use. BTW for those of you who have the Sony burner there is a free upgrade to MyDVD 5.0 at the Sony website.
Make sure you visit the Video guy's website at www.videoguys.com to get great OS tweaks! , and as Don had mentioned get ahold of some back issue mags. of the Videomaker magazine,, Better yet subscribe for a year. You won't regret it.. www.videomaker.com . If you own a Mac, visit the Apple website, I belive they have a page dedicated to video editing.
The only big difference between the XL1s and the XL1 is that the XL1s has a time laps feature on it.. Is it worth the $$$$??
I purchased a used XL1 which had 10hrs of use for the price of a new GL2. Save your money and shop for a late model XL1. However the GL2 is also a great camera to buy!!

Well Glen, since you're so far off with this advice, I wonder if you have any credibility regarding other issues at all?
