First off let's look at price. The XL1s will run you around $3000 while you can pickup a VX2000 on close out for less then $2000.
I'm a Canon owner and I believe the GL2 is a better deal over the XL1s if you buy Canon. Can you affort to buy the additional lens, or the MA300 XLR adapter? GL2's are cheaper to own and produce great images.
The XL1s is expensive to buy "toys" for. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't have bought my GL2's. Instead I would have purchased PD150's.

I have/use a Canon XL1s and have a buddy who uses a VX2000. Here's what I see.
1. VX200 is better than the XL1s in low light;
2. XL1s viewfinder is VERY awkward to use. The flip-out viewfinder is WAY better. Just try a shot with the camera extended away from your body- either way high or way low. You'll apreciate the LCD viewfinder.
3. VX2000 is smaller, lighter, less tiresome than the XL1s.
If I were to buy a camera right now, it woul dbe the vx2000.

Check into the Panasonic DVC80 as well, it is an excellent camera for the price. It is the same camera as the DVX100, minus the 24P functions. It has XLR inputs, etc. and still runs around $2000.00

I would buy a VX2000 too. The XL1 is not Canon's masterpiece. I haven't used the XL2 but I've already heard that they improved a lot. I work in a tv station here in Brazil that bougth 2 XL1 and is now looking for a Sony's camera.

Does the Vx2000 have the zebra feature on it?
