XM-1 problem! Can't Post

Hi!
I´m a filmmaker from the far away country of Finland and, of course, the camera I´m using right now is XM-1, the PAL version of GL-1. I´m in desperate need of help right now: Deadline for the finnish TV coming up and suddenly the Picture Rewind starts acting up! I can´t figure it out, tapes run perfect on Forward and Fast Forward and Still but when I rewind directly from Play the picture gets messed up with mosaic on one side and part of the next frame (I think..) on the top of the frame. What is going on???!!! I´ve cleaned the tape 3 times with a cleaning cassette, nothing helps.. Please answer this someone!! Thank you,
Hank the finn

Re: XM-1 problem! Can't Post

Hi Hank, sorry to hear of the problem that you have had with your Canon XM-1 and especially at a deadline for the Finnish tv. How did that ever turn out?
I express my concern because I am an independent filmmaker presently in København. I am brasileiro though and have lived the majority of my life in New Orleans, La. I have made a documentary of the Black-Indian culture there and a visual doc about this parade in the French Quarters called 'Decadence Day.'
I am in the process of upgrading my equipment a bit and this is what has brought me to your anouncement. Ashamed no one has offered any assistence considering how much technical people that work in this field in the states and whom use the net and have probably bumped ino yor site! Sorry I do not specialize in this category and probably would have done the same thing you did (clean the tape heads, experiment, ask for help).
Well, I was weighing my options on some DV cams to upgrade to and at the point of the Cannon XM-1 and the Sony DCR-VX2000e. Unfortunatly I have read a couple of complaints about the Canon cameras (GL-1 and now you with the XM-1). I am getting the PAL version of whatever camera I get.
Keep working at it. Hope things get better.
