XM2 (GL2) Problem Can't Post

Hi guys,
About 3 weeks ago I started having problems with my XM2 where the camera wouldn't record properly. When you loaded a tape and pressed record, everything looked fine, however when the tape was played back, sometimes there would be absolutely nothing (ie. no pic, no timecode, nothing), or sometimes you would get video with about 5 large black horizontal bars across the footage, and the sound would be very distorted. This would eventually disappear, and the actual video would come back... The work around I had discovered was anytime I needed to record, I would use a head cleaning tape, which would allow me to record for about 20 mins before it would stuff up again. Have any of you had this problem???

I took the camera to Canon Australia last week to have it repaired because I have a shoot this Sat. They ended up replacing the Idler gear assembly and drive gear assembly, as well as cleaning/inspecting the video heads, capstan, roller parts and tape path. They claimed that that the heads weren't worn (which makes sense, because the unit has only had 70 hours of use) and that it should now be fixed. I used it on saturday night, and although, it is working much better, I still lost about 10-20 seconds of footage. This occured when the tape was removed from the unit, and then reinserted for additional recording. I am planning to take it back to Canon next week (because they won't have it fixed by Sat), but do any of you have any idea what could be wrong?

Cheers,
James

Perhaps a different brand of tape will make a difference, although actually lots of similar problems are caused by going from one brand of tape to another.
