The XL1 is an incredible camera. Bear in mind it was introduced in 1997, so its capabilities appear shallow towhat newer cameras can do. Bottom linne, poor lighting or poor planning of the shoot will make all of the diference. So, if the camera has automatic settings, like "spotlight" (specifically designed for stage-lit situations), set the camera to switch bewteen the "spotlignt" automatic ecposure setting and manual exposure quickly. "Spotlight" typically works well for closeups, but fails miserably when the camera is at a wide angle setting. Additionally, a pan will totally confuse the "spotlight" setting, so the ability to switch to manual is important. What do you need to do to get good results? Atend a rehearsal and PLAN YOUR SHOOT to the best of your ability. Don't be disappointed when your see your results a less than anticipated. you will have some good shots and wyou will have some bad ones. Learn from them! We all do. Anyone who refuses to be willing to learn from experience is a fool. G5 1.8. Final Cut/QT Pro/iMovie/Still Life. GL1. XL1-s
