I know you've probably already done this, but it worked for me and my XL cameras. Run a tape cleaner twice on it then test it. I had the problem after shooting on a very humid day. I lost audio I thought I was capturing cause I could hear it through the headphones. After I ran the tape cleaner, everything was fine. I do only use one kind of tape in my camera though. I have never mixed brands. If you have used different kinds of tapes, you may have another problem. Good luck! Canon will charge you a fortune to fix heads. If it comes to that, see if you have a local Canon rep as opposed to sending it to NJ or CA. Annie
