audio setting for an interview Can't Post

i'll be doing a band interview in a couple weeks. nothing too fancy. they know it's my first time.
we'll probably interlace shots of them on stage with the interview, and maybe even some lipsyncing to their cd.
so what audio setting should i use for the interview part? i will just use the mic that comes with the xl1.
i ask because i don't know how the adding audio later works.
thanks for any tips.

-by the way, i've taken it out twice in public. people sure stare at it, and some make comments.
nice looking camera.

What do you mean by "adding audio later"? If I'm reading correctly, that would all be done in post using your NLE.

Personally, I always use a wireless lav mic. This eliminates a lot of noise issues. Trust me on this, I've had to fix too many clips (for others) with poor poor audio from the on-cam mic.

Agreed with the wireless lav mike poster. I've done quite a few interviews using a cheapie AUDIO TEKNIKA PRO-88 wireless lav and it works amazingly.

I like the fact that it seems more 'bassy' then 'treblish' ... 'bassy' being (or seems to be) easier to edit later.

When I get the audio clips into Premiere Pro, I just add a 'balance' filter to it to spread the voice across the channels. I occasionally will even balance a bit left or right to give it an effect of ambient sound. Hard to explain, but the output is awesome.
