capturing sound on GL2 Can't Post

Here's the senario. I have a GL2. I'm connecting to the dj's system via miniplug. so dj's system out to gl2's miniplug in. The problem is, when I imported everything into FCP, I noticed that I have only 1 audio channel. I can't just lay down a copy of the same audio on another track. Everything still comes out of the same single speaker. So my question is, how do I get stereo sound on 2 channels? Does that make sense?

Side bar: The one channel stuff only happened for the period of time where I connected to the dj's system. The remainder of the time when i'm just using the onboard mic, the sound is fine.

I'm not sure about FCP, but PPro has a FILL RIGHT and FILL LEFT audio effect that dupes the mono track to create Stereo tracks.

thanks matt. i'll look to see if FCP has something similiar. the weird thing is FCP see that audio channel as a single stereo channel. so right now, I have to turn it into a mono channel, then paste it in as left and right output. wish there's a better way...

The GL2 records into one channel through the mic input. Panning the audio across both right and left in FCP, is done by changing the spread to "0" (from the audio tab in the viewer window)

The external mic jack is a stereo input, using a 3.5 mm stereo minphone conenctor. The tip is the left channel, the ring is the right channel, and sleeve is ground. If you connect a typical mono (2-conductor) mini-phone plug, the right channel input is grounded and will register no input.

If you connect a stereo source, you get stereo recorded.

But if you happen to connect a balanced source via a simple adapter you are likely to end up with the left and right chanel sound equal but out of phase. (This is knows to happen with some wireless mic systems.) If combined to a mono track (such as the linear track on a VHS VCR, you may end up with near silence due to cancellation.
