color bars gl1/xm1	Can't Post

I have recently bought an xm1(Gl1 in the U.S.) I am just begining my DV quest and finding out a mass of information all the time, I have recently come across the need to use color bars.
Can so one please explain to me how I use color bars, it seems that the Gl1 does not have color bars, how do I calibrate the camera with color bars, please help it's driving me mad!?

you can NOT calibrate your GL ...you record bars onto the GL ( it will record them slightly different the say a sony 1000 - perhaps one compresses blacks more then other, or one camera tends to be warm ) ... now when you play the tape back you adjust the MONITOR to the color bars produced by the GL ...if using the sony tape you adjust monitor to the sony bars ...
