firewire problems Can't Post

i just got the g5. tried to hook up my xl1 to start importing into final cut...nothing happened. the firewire didn't recognize the camera. it recognizes other cameras. the plugin seems worn and limp too..also--it records fine, but the 'dv mode' light in the lower right hand corner flashes in red when i am in vtr mode...what the? and how much is this going to cost? and is there anywhere to send it other than canon in jersey? thanks..
