fooling the XL1 power-down question Can't Post

I read on the XL1 Watchdog that by pressing the eject slider on the tape door and holding it (the white outer door) in, the internal tape "mechanism" will pop out, with the camera thinking there's no tape inside... and therefore it will not auto-turn off while your configuring your shot etc. etc. But the tape's still in there, of course. All you do is pop it back in when you're good and ready. Has anyone tried this..? I think it could be a good idea, but alas, I'm too nervous about causing any damage. If so, what happened? I'd be delighted to know.

Besides the chance of damage, doesn't this practice result in a break in timecode?
