gl-1, gl-2, vx-2000 compatability Can't Post

Ok i've had this problem with the gl-1 to gl-2 and the gl-1 to vx2000(sony).....When i record something on a gl-2 and try to play it back on a gl-1 it plays back all jittery and the audio cuts out a whole lot, but plays fine on the camera it was shot with. Now i bought a vx2000 and when i try to capture video from some of the stuff i shot with the gl-1 it does the same thing. Does anyone know why it's doing this or how to fix it? I know there is nothing wrong with the tapes. Am I in a wrong mode somewhere? (all tapes were shot using sp mode) Can anyone please help? I'm in a jam

Sounds like bad heads in the canon's.. have them serviced.
have you tried to play back tapes in the canon's shot by the sony?
take tapes from all three camera's and go to Best Buy or some other store and try playing them on different mini DV camera's.
Also, look further down this web page,, I thought I came across something like your situation.
good luck!

Sounds like the heads of the GL1 may be a bit out of proper alignment. Does the Sony playback stuff from the GL2 - probably does.
Before you have the GL1 heads aligned, be sure to dub any important tapes that play only on it because after the GL1 is alighed, it may not playback the tapes made while it was out of alignment.

: does anyone know how much this would cost,

chris,
do a Google search on local Canon dealers in your area.Call them and ask for pricing.. Just make sure they are authorized by Canon to do the work!!
Sounds like you sold your camera now the tapes won't play on your new one.
See if you can borrow it back for a weekend then dub your tapes onto your new camera like don suggested.

i wish i could borrow it back, but i sold it out of state, i just need to let the buyer know about the heads even though they'll prob be mad, but better be mad now than have 6 months of unusable tapes like me

I have had similar problems before, but not with those cameras. Try taking the tape, put it into the camera that you want to capture from and fast forward to the end. Then rewind all the way to the beginning and see how it plays. I have had pretty good luck with that technique.

I am in Brazil and have two XL-1 and one GL-1 camera. I also experienced that kind of problem with Panasonic AG-1000 player. I observed that there a small diferences between head alignment so that one camera do not play back tapes recorded on others. But the quality of the tapes are very important. I tested many diferent brands of tapes. With some tapes all works fine and with others not. So I think that there are tapes where the video is recorded with higher magnetic intensity compensating small head alignments of diferent cameras. Try testing some diferent tapes.
