Re: lap time returns to zero with audio loss

: Has anyone experienced the XL1 losing the continuous lap time and returning the display to zero when coming off pause? Lap time? Do you mean the time code? It will do this if for some reason the heads are not over previously recorded video with time code when pause is released. The main time I've seen this happen is if I review a shot and pause the camcorder just past the end of the recorded section of tape. The reason is that consumer DV time code is based on starting at 0:00:00:00 at the beginning of the recording on a tape. If there is a gap, however small, in the recorded video the count restarts at zero. As the camcorder comes out of pause, it check for recorded time code on the tape, if none is found it starts at zero. You probably see the other wierd stuff at the break in the recorded video because the system has to adjust tracking as it passes over the gap in record signal on the tape. If time code is found, it continues to increment the count.
