shutter speeds Can't Post

Can anyone fill me in on when it makes sense to use a higher shutter speed than the standard 1/60th? I tried some tests to maintain a f5.6 to f11 on some helicopter footage I was shooting. Aside from the strobic effect of the blades, I didn't see much difference - with the exception of being able to control lens opening. Anyone have any guidance here? Thanks.

When necessary to maintain a specific aperture; e.g., wide open to try reduce depth of field. To avoid minimum aperture (f/16) which may not provide as good an image as, say f/5.6. When you want to freeze some motion in a field (golf swing)
