Absolutely Yes.-->Re: split audio xl-1 Can't Post

Yes. No problem. Set the cam in 12 bit audio mode and run the mic into the auxilliary mic in the handle or on the rear of the cam.
Some of the controls are under the door on left rear side of the cam. To vector the output to the headphones, push the button on left side of the VU meter (audio monitor). It switches between audio sources or mix of ST1 and ST2 audio tracks. Final mix is really done in the editor not on the cam (levels are set on the cam). Make sure your NLE supports this.

Yes, you could do up to 4 sources if in 12-bit mode. A typical setup is the on-camera feeding the Audio 1 stereo pair. The camera provides level and balance for Audio 1. Your external mic or wireles can feed one or both of the audio 2 pair. You have separate level control for each of the Audio 2 channels, and you can set them for mic, mic att, or line (-10 dBV) level independent of the Audio 1 pair. The connections at the camcorder are RCA unbalanced - be sure you have the proper cable from the wireless. If using the MA-100 XLR adapter, you can connect its output to Audio 2 and use the balanced XLR inputs on it,
If your NLE cannot capture 4-channel audio, you can play them as 4 individual channel analog outputs, or do an in the camera mix. Setting audio modes involve the menu system as well as some of the controls behind the door. Best to spend a bit of time and practice this in advance of a money shoot. Some folks do have difficulty figuring it out (and your rental shop rep sound like he might be one of them), but it is not as bad as setting the time on a VCR.
