transferring movie from xm1 to IBM notebook with firewire? Can't Post

Hi,
I hope someone could help me with this. I have a xm1 and a ibm t20 notebook (pIII). I would like to save the movies to my harddisk for editing. What is the best way to do this? I know it's possible to do this by firewire but I don't know how. Is it possible to make it work when I buy a standard firewire pmcia card and connect it with the xm1? Do I need any special software to do it?
Thanks for the help. I really appreciate this.
