hi,
I have a GL1 (called XM1 here in UK) and have bought a nice 2nd hand tripod (professional screw thread - I think it's 3/8 inch)
any recommendations for a fluid head?

I like the Bogen (Manfrotto) 3433, aka 501. Sells for about US$130 over here.
