First, very carefully examine your cassette tape. The tape should be taut. any eslack in the tape can cause improper loading, thereby the message. Also, carefully examine the moving parts of the cassette to verify everything is operating smoothly. Next, carefully examine the camera's loading mechanism with particular regard to any missing springs. Comparing the loading mechanism to another camera will help you identify where the springs are located.

Sadly, Canon cameras are known for transport/loading mechanisms to fail. If you can confirm problem is unique to a specific cassette, breath easy. Discard theat tape and you should be OK. For any other issue, and I mean any, arrange to send the camera to a Canon factory service center.

Re: [DustinR] xl1 EJECT THE CASSETTE warning [In reply to] Can't Post

As WALDEMAR stated and has been known in a few other threads there does seem to be a transport problem in the CANON's, although I thought it was restricted to just the GL-2.

WALDEMAR? Do you know if the GL2 and the XL series contain the same transport system architecture ? If they do, poo poo on CANON, for they have emphatically told me 'There is no problem with the transports, period.', yet you see enough threads here that there are.

I recently completed a shoot for a sequence of a movie I'm doing - and forgot to tell my Cameraman using Camera 1 NOT to rewind the tape - he did, and prior to getting the usual 'EJECT TAPE' message, it ate the tape. We're scheduled to re-shoot the sequence next weekend, weather permitting (it's too damned hot in L.A.)

My bad for not informing him of the problem with Camera 1 (GL2). My camera 2 (another GL2) has not experienced this issue yet - and am wondering if later manufactured CANONs have fixed this non-problem.

The camera itself works fine, the tracking seems to be no problem on playback and capture, no loss or 'stretch' problem ... it just seems to be the rewind issue.

Sadly enough, today - I'm off to the Canon Service Center to get the problem fixed with Camera 1. Oh well, it's near Huntington Beach so I'll go catch a few bikinis on the way back .

All in all, the CANON series of prosumer models are par excellent save this one bugger issue that CANON refuses to admit to.
