I won't go into history of the DraCo Casablanca here (check out http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MSUS/message/2 ), but suffice to say that I have bought, used, and still own more MacroSystem products than most MSUS dealers and certainly more than those relative beginners who purport to be "experts" here. : I honestly would think you would be spending : too much time on the phone with computer : tech support to be worried about everyone : and their petty little Avios. That's probably because you prefer to believe the hype of the Casablanca ads rather than doing the research on the newer, more powerful, less expensive systems. True, 8 years ago, the DraCo, then the Casablanca were less frustrating and easier to use than comparably priced PCs. But that's all changed. In reality, I've never had to call tech support for any of the 3 editing PCs I currently use or the editing software that installs quicker than installing Avio software on a new drive. The very first function I did when checking out the software I currently use was logging pieces from a 15 minute video segment into my old 1.2GHz PC. I let the tape roll while I chose about 5 different segments, and then clicked "batch record" and walk away. 5 minutes later, they were all there and ready to edit. 10 minutes later, I had a finished video, playing back 3 layers of DV video including multiple PIPs, superimpositions, and clean titles. I honestly didn't expect it to work so easily, either. At that point, I realized there suddenly was a tremendous shift in video & computer technology. Yes, I still use my rack of Casablancas for a very specific basic project each year, and once in a while in between when all the other systems are busy ... becoming increasingly annoyed by the bugginess [STILL] and random glitches [STILL!!] and the gray vertical lines on each side of the picture [STILL!!!!]. But I paid the big bucks for the tools, and like the '92 Grand Caravan, they still get me there and back with a little coaxing and a little repair, so I'll keep using them until they die. Of course, I'm very disappointed that MS has not provided any advanced editing software since way back in '96. They are capable of it, but they just don't think enough of their customers to grow with them. Too bad.
