Need advise! Screenplay or Casablanca which shall I buy? Can't Post

I need advise about the pros and cons of both the system by people who have tested both the systems. I'm located in Malaysia so I do not have the option of going down to a dealer and checking out both the systems so if anyone has any advise please email me. Thanks.

I am interested in both products as well. Both companies have sent me their literature. The folks at Draco have been absolutely fantastic in answering all my questions. You get a feeling that customer service is everything to them. The ScreenPlay folks, on the other hand, seem to be more corporate and distant. I don't know what's going on with them, when and where their product is coming out, IF it's coming out, etc. I've called around in New York City and none of the retailers I called are planning to carry it. So I'm puzzled. Hope others can provide more answers.

Nick, I have the same problem, most the dealers I called said that they will not be carrying the products and a few said that Screenplay is still in the R&D stages where for exmaple the 3D rendering etc is still finicky and does not seem to work well as yet...however, since you are also interested in both products please keep my email and either post your findings here or email me directly with any recent updates that you might have. I would really appreciate it if you could share your findings with me. Thanks.

Screenplay is now shipping (according to their web site) but I have not seen it yet myself. Since they claim real time effects it might be worth checking out. I'm also comparission shopping and must say that I've been very impressed with Draco so far in regard to their excellent web site and support.

SCREENPLAY is FCC and CE qualified, Casablanca is not. FCC and CE passing
for manufacturers is by self-declaration. That is the manufacturer tests
the system at an independent certified lab, self declares compliance through
labeling of the product, and holds the results in the event of inspection.
Casablanca has a CE label on their box, but word is that a certified
independent testing lab has tested the claim and confirmed that they do not
pass the CE test. Casablanca has no FCC label on their product.
To me, this regulatory stuff is important, because the first thing I am
looking for is to make wise investments, and to protect the value of these
investments in production equipment. The bottom line with performance, is
that Screenplay is a superior system... If you want to see what a transition
or effect looks like just press play and you see it in full screen or 1/4
screen whichever way you like, no rendering or waiting. This advantage
alone sets Screenplay far ahead of the others, as the creative process can
really flow. Next advantage is the difference in picture quality. Wavlet
compression is an advanced algorithm that preserves the quality of your
image much better. MPEG2 will create havoc around titles and high contrast
edges like black against white under ideal conditions it can look pretty
good but it is very rare that I get to shoot under ideal conditions. By the
way if you have to render MPEG2 each render adds more artifacts to the image
I would not love to see it 10 or 12 layers down.
This is only the tip of the iceberg. Just look at Screenplay side by side
with a Casablanca and see for your self.
To keep things clear I do work as a consultant with Applied Magic from time
to time.
