Reloading software Can't Post

I bought an avio DV with 1.8 on Ebay that came with a lot of software pre-loaded like all the effect packs, fonts, etc. I did not get all the disks for these though. I would like to ugrade to 3.0 but if I do that will I lose all the other stuff that came pre-loaded.

Yes - you will lose everything... email the seller and have them to send you the software codes...

Re: Reloading software [In reply to] Can't Post

I thought that the codes were maintained in the machine ... just the software would have to be reloaded.
But another issue ... it might be better to stay with 1.x and save your money ... 3.x takes away the most important feature of the machine: MPEG2 editing! And other features, too!

I don't miss mpeg eiditing. Hard drive space is cheap and havin all the benifits
that pure dv provides like no converting to mpeg and back plus all the good
things that v3 gives is real nice. Like better audio control and a bjnch of other
stuff.

As Bob suggests, you do NOT lose any software at all. (Assuming already bought with codes entered of course. Wouldn't surprise me if an eBay seller loaded all demo software and claimed it was fully equipped!)
Simply ask the same dealer providing the 3.1 to load all available software add-ons onto an SM card and reinstall after 3.1 has been installed.
Perhaps the seller left some SM cards in the box?
Seasons greetings.

I agree, Gordo, that HD space is cheap, but what good does it do to be able to buy a 160GB HD when the Avio doesn't recognize over 20 GB of it?
Oh yeah ... you can spend the $100 on the BigHD software which brings that up to a whopping total of 80 GB capacity.
OK, so I've spent $100 on BigHD and $500 more on Pro software (over the cost of the machine) ... and another $100 on the 160GB drive ... $700 (more than Avid Xpress DV costs) ... and Avio recognizes only enough hard drive for just over 34 minutes of DV video per project (counting 10 projects in A-Pro). At least with MPEG2, I can still get over 100 minutes of better-than-DVD quality video in each project using Q4.
Oh, but for another $300 you say, I can get 3.x and then get ALL of my HD space recognized -- WOW -- let's see ... that's nearly 70 minutes of video per project. That's $1000 above the cost of the Avio, and I'm still getting 30% less DVD-quality video than with 1.x ---
Sorry, but it just doesn't make any sense. And exactly NONE of these options give a decent amount of storage space to be able to put together 10 weddings or 10 of almost any other event that needs to be edited down to a 90-120 minute final tape.
You've got to cut out dumping the money into the pit somewhere ... I think a good place is to stop when they charge ridiculously high prices to take away features.
