Stand alone DVD set up for Avio Can't Post

I just bought an Avio DV. I would like to record to DVD and was told it may be cheaper for me to buy a stand alone recorder rather than buy the upgrade from Macro. My question is how do I set this up and will I have any power over my authoring. Would I be better off just getting the upgrade? Would it better to get authoring software for my PC, then run my Avio into my PC for authoring, and then to my burner from there? Thats Seems a little more complicated than it should be. Thanks.

You can find a Stand alone DVD recorder between $400.00 and $1000.00. I myself have a Panasonic DMR-HS2, works great.

"My question is how do I set this up and will I have any power over my authoring."
You set it up just like a VCR. If you buy the one I have, you can connect via firewire. This way you don't lose video quality.

"Would I be better off just getting the upgrade?"
If they had a DVD option before I bought the Panasonic, I would have gone with the DVD upgrade. Why? Because you can transfer music to your AVIO in seconds, You can add video background on your DVDs, Stills for your chapter menus and lots more that a stand alone can't do for $799.00. All you have to do is send in your system and trade it for a AVIO DVD and they will transfer your software. You don't have to buy any software you already have.

The only way you can transfer anything to your PC is thru via PC-link USB, an add on software. Not sure about the quality. I already tried going via firewire with no success.
For a project that I was trying to slow down, I went firewire to my Canon GL2, then GL2 to PC. Then visa-versa to my Avio. I saved myself about 6 or more hours. It takes for ever in an Avio.

Maybe, but it can be done.

Good luck,
Gilbert
